Dr. Mandell has been an actively practicing physician for over 25 years. She has published
extensively and has received multiple honors for her contributions to the medical community. She currently maintains
medical licenses in the states of New
York, New Jersey and Florida.
Dr. Mandell began her medical career as an oncologist in the subspecialty of Radiation Oncology as
a resident at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She next served at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as chief
resident and then as an attending physician. In 1990, she joined the medical staff of the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City,
where she was an attending physician and ultimately achieved the rank of a full professor of radiation
oncology and pediatrics.
In the course of her many years of treating the physical needs of her cancer patients, she
learned to appreciate the powerful psychological and emotional impact of cancer on patients and their families. She recognized
that this influence needed to be recognized and addressed at a specialized professional level. In 2002, Dr.
Mandell opened an oncology consulting practice to provide counseling services to cancer patients and their families
in an attempt to meet this need. She soon realized that, despite her extensive training and experience in oncology, she did
not have the requisite training and skills to meet the psychiatric needs of her patients.
Accordingly, Dr. Mandell made the decision to put her oncology practice on hold and undertook
a full time psychiatry residency in July 2003, which she completed in June of 2006. With the benefit of her additional training, experience as an
attending psychiatrist at a major psychiatric facility in Paramus, New Jersey, and the acheivement of a board certification
in psychiatry, she opened a private psychiatry practice in New York City . In accordance with her professional interests and expertise, a principal
area of specialization is psycho-oncology. Dr. Mandell, in her desire to maintain her expertise in clincical
cancer care, resumed the practice of radiation oncology, joining a nationally acclaimed multidisciplinary
cancer group (NNJCA) of the Hackensack University Medical Center More recently, she decided to discontinue her
oncology work to dedicate herself to her psychiatric practice on a full-time basis.
